New York’s eclectic indie-pop rocker, The Drums (now fronted by solo artist Jonny Pierce) returns to Sydney in February 2024.

This long-awaited return to our shores comes after more than a decade since the band graced Australian festival stages at Groovin’ The Moo (2011) and Laneway (2012) during their breakout self-titled debut album featuring “Let’s Go Surfing” catapulted them to alt-pop prestige.

The Drums music has also proven to be timeless, as exemplified by the recent viral success of the RIAA Gold-certified song, “Money” which originally appeared on their sophomore album, “Portamento” (2011). Thanks to TikTok, the song has now garnered over 230 million streams

The upcoming tour will support the latest album release, titled after frontman Pierce’s name, “Jonny” which is a rollercoaster of emotions, offering heartbreak, playfulness, raucousness, and serenity. It delves into confronting deep-rooted childhood trauma that he experienced while growing up in a cult-like religious community in upstate New York, and also triumphs over the long shadow it cast on his life and relationships for years.

Alongside Jonny’s charismatic stage presence and evocative lyrics, he’s captivated audiences worldwide. Fans attending the shows can expect a sonic landscape of all the hits plus new songs, characterised by shimmering guitars, reverb, modular synthesisers, and drum machines—a unique and unmistakable signature of The Drums.
