Across two decades, The Crooked Fiddle Band have toured the world, recorded with the producers of both Nirvana and Dannii Minogue, been nominated for an ARIA Award, and done it all completely DIY, without a single lineup change.
Their sound has always sat somewhere between folk tradition, post-rock dynamics, punk intensity and cinematic chaos: ecstatic fiddle lines, crooked riffs, heavy grooves, unreasonably complicated rhythms, and the kind of high-wire ensemble playing that has made them a cult favourite across Australia and overseas.
From Womadelaide, Woodford, Sydney Festival, Brisbane Festival, Darwin Festival and Dark Mofo to international stages including the London Olympic Arts Festival, Shambala, Fusion Festival and Colours of Ostrava, The Crooked Fiddle Band have spent 20 years proving that weird, uncompromising music can still build a devoted following.
Their set will span it all from early live favourites to deep cuts to ARIA-nominated later work: expect one very crooked birthday party.
tCFB are joined by special guests SEIMS:
Hailed as one of the most inventive math-rock acts around the globe; with their flavour of controlled chaos sweeping through every influence imaginable - from post-rock to hardcore to electronic to jazz. They’ve played bills with every genre under the sun, supporting And So I Watch You From Afar (UK), Tortoise (US), Jean Jean (FRA), Regurgitator, Delta Sleep (UK), and We Lost the Sea to name a few. Frenetically energetic and furiously infectious, their live show will leave you breathless (for better or worse).
Praise for The Crooked Fiddle Band:
“a crowd-pleasing oddity that sometimes it resembles what heavy metal music would sound like if it was played by acoustic guitars, a fiddle and an upright bass. This is a band that refuses to play by any rules and are far better for it.” - themusic.com.au
“Their music is original and quixotic, with the strength of some deep roots. I’ve never heard anything like it.” - Brian Eno
“Their eclectic approach is ambitious, and that has inspired many other musicians, myself among them. I admire them tremendously and think the music world is enriched by their presence.” - Steve Albini
“One of the most uncompromising releases I’ve heard in a while: new heights of expression and energy. Just listen to this album, ok? I could write a thousand more words and not do it justice.” - heavyblogisheavy.com
“This band really is a national treasure and testament to the infinite talent that keeps manifesting in our backyard.” -australianstage.com
