The London-based alt-pop duo, consisting of Josephine Vander Gucht and Anthony West, released their new single ‘Ultralife’ just last week – the title track from their forthcoming sophomore record, Ultralife, which will be released via Dew Process/UMA June 16. The single is their first official release since their debut, self-titled 2015 album (a record that had 15.3 million streams in Australia alone, and sold the equivalent of 16,000 copies), and has already proven their popularity has only grown in that time, having racked up over 1.5 million streams in less than a week. That’s just a preview of the huge things to come for their sophomore album.
Their popularity isn’t limited to online either – their live following is just as huge. Having toured Australia for the first time for the 2015/16 Falls Festivals, as well as supporting Halsey for her Falls sideshows that year, they played two sold out sideshows in Sydney and Melbourne themselves – shows that sold out within 48 hours of going on sale, were then upgraded, then sold out again. That support slot with Halsey also led them to tour the states with the alt-pop star, playing huge venues like Madison Square Garden.
They’re now poised to return to Australian shores for what is expected to be one of the standout sets of Splendour In The Grass, as well as this exclusive and all-but-guaranteed to sell out run of sideshows. Oh, and you can throw in appearances at Coachella, Leeds and Reading festivals as well, just to reinforce that 2017 is going to be Oh Wonder’s year.
