Strawberry Fields and Astral People are proud to present the inaugural LAND OF THE GIANTS, a four-headed audio experience spanning continents, planets and timeframes. Taking place at The Metro Theatre on November 24th, worlds collide as TYCHO, BATHS, PREFUSE73 and SYNKRO go face to face for one very special evening of musical exploration…
TYCHO (USA / GHOSTLY INTERNATIONAL)
San Francisco based TYCHO began a foray into electronic music with 2002’s The Science of Patterns EP, followed by 2004’s LP Sunrise Projector. The artist behind renowned imprint Ghostly International’s first ever release, his dream-like style has since defined not just a record label, but a wave of recent breakthrough artists who all allude to his music as inspiration. Tycho will be bringing his much anticipated full band live-visual show for his debut performance in Sydney as part of Land Of The Giants.
BATHS (USA / ANTICON)
Amidst the first Australian tour of 21-year old BATHS, traversing musical planets is not just an expectation, but a guarantee. Growing up amidst the pleasantries of the San Fernando Valley, his unremarkable upbringing was a surprising catalyst for an acclaimed intersection of acoustic and electronic sounds. His lush melodies, stuttered beats and playful eclecticism has seen him tour the world under a variety of names, before releasing his first ever album Cerulean through Anticon in 2010. Land of the Giants will stand as Baths first ever show in Sydney.
PREFUSE 73 (USA / WARP)
Prefuse 73 is the experimental non-de-plume of Scott Herren, a production visionary whose work focuses more on the entire experience than sonic highlights. Releasing almost exclusively on Warp Records (often regarded as the only label that matters in electronic music), his output since 2003’s One Word Extinguisher has seen collaborations with everyone from Ghostface, Blonde Redhead, The Books, Aesop Rock, Four Tet, TV on the Radio and Battles drummer John Stannier. His experimental hip-hop aesthetic lives by a non-descript fusion of lowend conduct and theatrical ideas, as self-referencing as it is forward thinking. With a full live show featuring a multitude of interpreted instruments, Prefuse 73 will have Sydney thinking just that little bit harder about the sounds they hear.
Manchester’s SYNKRO is a truly unique force in today’s ever changing musical landscape. Using classic 2step and dubstep frameworks as a building block, his work extends itself into a passive experience beyond the dancefloor. Known for his highly original material and remixes for names including The XX, Synkro’s music has since seen releases through the likes of Exit Records, Autonomic, Med School and R&S offshoot Apollo (best known for releasing the likes of Aphex Twin). Bridging the gap between the club-ready and the mindawakening, Synkro’s first ever tour to Australia will change your presumed boundary’s of modern electronic music.
Joining one of the most forward thinking line-ups of 2012 will be Sydney’s very own Thomas William and the Astral DJs.
Feel the future…
