UK sonic explorer JAMES BLAKE sold out his first round of shows straight away with an additional Melbourne show added due to popular demand and sold out shortly thereafter. Due to the resounding response from fans, Secret Sounds is pleased to announce a second Sydney show on Saturday, 30 July at the Metro. He will be making the journey back to Sydney especially for this. The people have spoken, and they want JAMES BLAKE.

Call it pure sonic exploration: young British singer/songwriter and composer JAMES BLAKE defies categorisation.

Secret Sounds are thrilled to announce the very first tour by one of music’s most exciting new talents: JAMES BLAKE. Blake’s dreamy, spell-binding mix – sparse, hypnotic instrumentation, isolated, cut-up samples, powerful vocals – has seen his self-titled debut (released in February on Universal Music) heralded as one of the most exciting and groundbreaking albums of 2011.

Pop your headphones on and it’s no surprise why – BLAKE’s poignant, slow burn record demands repeated listens. Scoring 9.0 from Pitchfork and described as a “dubstep Nebraska, or Sea Change” by US blog Frontier Psychiatrist, tracks like breakout single “The Wilhelm Scream” or his cover of Feist ballad “Limit to Your Love” envelop you in a sonic cocoon, a musical daydream where the silence is just as important as sound. A classically trained pianist who studied popular music at uni and found salvation in the clubs of Shoreditch, after releasing three attention-grabbing EPs BLAKE was determined to pull out something entirely new.

“Blake’s sound is certainly more visceral live than on record, where it has a tendency to float like mist. The bass on ‘Limit to Your Love’ is so heavy that the air conditioning units rattle, while ‘The Wilhelm Scream’ bursts unexpectedly into a thrilling crescendo… Blake’s music is so mesmerising that the surroundings don’t matter at all.” The Guardian, January 2011

“I have an obsession with emotion,” says BLAKE. “I want to make dance music that actually connects with people in the way that a soul record does. I want my music to speak to you like a folk record does, in an organic, human way. It’s the human touch that I want.”

Undoubtedly set to be one of the most anticipated tours of 2011, following on from his recent sold-out gigs across the UK and US JAMES BLAKE will head to Australia for a slot on Splendour in the Grass, as well as these special headline shows in July. These tickets will sell quickly, so get in early. Tickets on sale to the public 9am Thursday, May 27.

James Blake is out now.
