The Sydney six-piece Room 6 once again bring you their spectral brand of music, starting at rock and ending in blues, with a menagerie of hybrid genres filling the space between the two.

The fresh-faced lads and the lady from Room 6 have had a break from gigging for a while, and the music has been steadily accumulating without an appropriate avenue to channel it into. There comes a point when that melodic energy can no longer be contained, and so in March 2011 Room 6 once again brings you their spectral brand of music, starting at rock and ending in blues, with a menagerie of hybrid genres filling the space between the two. The outfit is comprised of Manik Mayadunne (guitar/vocals), David Siow (drums), Jonathan Nguyen (keys), Jess Sandy (trumpet/vocals), Victor Wei (tenor sax) and Josh Demetriou (bass guitar), who together produce an infectious positive energy on stage that is hard to ignore.

The Sydney six-piece will have you tapping your toes and jumping out of your skins at one moment, and bathed in smooth harmonies the next. Each song will greet you with its own flavour, some driving you with funky bass lines and bright horn sections while others will softly draw you in with keys and acoustic guitar accompanied by poignant lyrics.

Joining them will be three other promising young Sydney bands: Hey Big Aki, Our Monk and Gaps at Sea, each of whom will delight you with their tunes and each opening up a different perspective on music in while sharing a knack for making quality melodies.

It is indeed difficult to pigeonhole the musical style of Room 6 into any particular genre. Don’t ask what music they play. Nobody will give you an accurate label. The drums will beat, the bass will boom, the brass will sing, and the keys, guitar and vocals will take you on a journey of words and wondrous choruses. Bring your blank paper and bring your markers. Experience the music, then write your own labels.

Since walking on stage to an overwhelming reception at the Manning Bar in 2008, audiences haven’t had many an opportunity to share in Room 6’s music. The next big night is just around the corner. Don’t miss out. Feel the rhythm, feel the rhyme, get on up, it’s Room 6 time!
