DOORS & FOYER DJ 7:30PM / GUN STREET GIRLS 8:30PM / THE HOLD STEADY 9:30PM

Strap yourselves in people, it’s going to be a fun ride – Brooklyn-based rockers, The Hold Steady, are returning to our fair shores in March 2011 to knock the wind out of you.

Fronted by Minnesota-born Craig Finn (vocals/guitar) and followed up by Tad Kubler (lead guitar), Galen Polivka (bass) and Bobby Drake (drums), the group have established themselves as one of America’s most important bands since the breakthrough success of Boys & Girls in America in 2006.

They bring with them a live ethos of grinding guitar riffs teamed with their lyrically dense story telling that narrates a certain brand of street level American life. Getting messily drunk and high, hanging in suburban shopping malls, dive bars and party houses, and pursuing ambiguous crushes in their crazy hedonistic hoodrat life. Finn’s lyrics cover it all. Make no mistake though, there is nothing forlorn about their musicology. Tied up with the loads of up front guitar, stinging punchlines and enough hero moves to make a pop princess blush, The Hold Steady are more likely to make you want to knock back a bunch of whiskey shots and crash your car into your living room than serenade your lover.

Following the release of their latest album Heaven Is Whenever (Shock Records), in May 2010, the album received rave reviews for continuing to show the scope, depth and heart they bring to chronicling the American rock myth.

The Hold Steady will be joined by Melbourne outfit, Gun Street Girls. Toting about their latest release Adult Loose, the collaboration of former Dallas Crane frontman Dave Larkin (vocals/guitar), Dave Butterworth (vocals/bass) and Callum John Barter (drums) is sure to be a welcome accompaniment with their sonic gravel and soul.

There are some who have an appetite for the more delicate watered down things in life; low-carb and fat free. For those people, the cacophonous, in-your-face sound of The Hold Steady may be a little too much. But they make no apology for their rambunctiousness and this show promises to be just that. Do not miss out.
