Come together to see PRIMAL SCREAM do Screamadelica!
British rockers PRIMAL SCREAM will remake history by performing their epoch-defining classic Screamadelica in full at The Metro Theatre.
“Both of its time yet quintessentially timeless, Screamadelica still sounds like nothing else, yet all things at once. Digestible whether off your nut in a club, soundtracking a barbeque or even indie seduction… A solid gold classic”- BBC, March 2009.
Glasgow group PRIMAL SCREAM were more garage rock than rave at the end of the ’80s, before they hooked up with acid house DJ/producer Andy Weatherall to conceive Screamadelica. Released in 1991, the album broke the band out of the indie scene and forever changed the musical landscape. “Suddenly we had this chance to do something,” frontman Bobby Gillespie told the Sunday Mail. “We wanted to inspire kids in the way The Sex Pistols inspired us.”
Two decades on, these songs still sound like the future: Loaded, Movin’ On Up, Higher Than the Sun, Come Together, Don’t Fight it, Feel It. PRIMAL SCREAM have since gone on to create one of the most diverse and challenging discographies in modern music, their latest album being 2008’s Beautiful Future.
Just how classic is Screamadelica? It was the first ever recipient of the Mercury Music Prize. It propelled PRIMAL SCREAM to Top of the Pops and Smash Hits cover-star status. And it was one of 10 album covers chosen by Britain’s Royal Mail to adorn postage stamps earlier this year.
“Screamadelica‘s music is iconic as its cover, marking the band’s transition from a straight-up indie guitar group to fully fledged gospel tinged acid house outfit”- Q, February 2010.
Bobby Gillespie, guitarist Andrew Innes, keyboardist Martin Duffy, bassist Mani and drummer Darrin Mooney will be joined by gospel singers, horn section, and a house full of memories to recreate the magic of Screamadelica live on stage.
Come together to see PRIMAL SCREAM do Screamadelica. This is the ONLY Sydney PRIMAL SCREAM side show outside of the Big Day Out dates. Tickets go on sale at 9.00am local time on Monday, 22nd November, 2010.
