Prepare to be moved as Secret Sounds presents dark-edged UK trio the WHITE LIES. The moody rockers hit Australia for the first time for their debut performance at Splendour In The Grass before playing two sideshows in Sydney and Melbourne this July.
“Epic British Indie reborn!” Mojo
“For all its glum pronouncements of murder, mortality and loss, it’s an ecstatic listen, ponderous party music.” NME Album Review
Harking back to the sonic strains of Joy Division, Echo & The Bunnymen and Interpol, WHITE LIES infuse their catchy melodies and danceable beat with dark lyrics and murderous undertones. Their aptly named debut LP To Lose My Life hit #1 on the UK charts upon its release earlier this year, slipping into the top slot ahead of US rockers Kings of Leon.
“White Lies’ polished synth rock effuses more melodrama than any young group should be allotted: To Lose My Life is full of pulsating bass lines and high-def keyboard atmospherics, underpinning singer Harry McVeigh’s arena-ready wail and gothed-out lyrics.” Rolling Stone USA
To Lose My Life instantly caught international attention with WHITE LIES playing sold out headline shows across the UK and joining the bill of every major festival in Europe, Japan and the USA including Roskilde Festival, Reading and Leeds Festivals, Fuji Rock, Lollapalooza and many more.
This West London trio have already taken SxSW by storm, made their US television debut on The Late Show with David Letterman and jumped on the NME Bandwagon with a full NME presents USA tour. The WHITE LIES were also recently name-checked as one of the buzz bands of last month’s Coachella festival. The trio have shared the stage with the likes of Snow Patrol, Friendly Fires, Florence and the Machine and Glasvegas to name a few.
These lads have graced the cover of the NME and The Fly, and been lauded as the bastions of new indie rock in 2009 in everything from The Times to The Guardian. It’s not all doom and gloom for the UK purveyors of dark indie rock, with their intense live shows renowned for getting fans dancing with abandon. The rest of the world has been let in on the secret, now it is time for Australia to join the ranks and embrace WHITE LIES.
Learn the truth about WHITE LIES at a special all ages show at the Metro Theatre, Sydney on Tuesday, July 28th. SPECIAL GUESTS YVES KLEIN BLUE will be supporting.
