Jenny Lewis follows up from her internationally acclaimed 2006 album Rabbit Fur
Coat with her new solo album Acid Tongue.
Many of Lewis’s most steadfast collaborators appear on Acid Tongue including
Johnathan Rice, Jason Boesel and M Ward. Other notable musician friends
invited into the fold were Elvis Costello for a duet on Carpetbaggers, Chris
Robinson (The Black Crowes), Zooey Deschanel (She & Him), Paz Lenchantin
(A Perfect Circle) and Laurel Canyon’s own Jonathan Wilson. Even members of
Jenny’s own family appear on the album with her sister Leslie provided backing
vocals while her father, harmonica virtuoso Eddie Gordon, makes a star turn on
rumbling bass harp.
The all analogue, no Pro-Tools sessions were all part of a shared aesthetic between Lewis, her producers and her musician collaborators, working quickly and tracking her vocals entirely live and without embellishment. Recorded at Sound City Studios in Van Nuys, California in just 3 weeks, the album’s tracks, disparate as they are, share a sparkling vitality; Lewis’s voice has never sounded so expressive and the narratives have never been so hard-hitting and acerbic.
Acid Tongue is due out October 4 through Rough Trade Records/Remote Control.
